How to Download Games on an Amazon Fire Tablet (2026 Guide)
Amazon Fire tablets don’t use Google Play. Every game and app comes from the Amazon Appstore. Here are the two ways to download games onto a Fire tablet, what changed in 2025, and a few tips before you buy.
Method 1: Download directly on the Fire tablet
- Unlock your Fire tablet and connect to Wi-Fi.
- On the home screen, open the Appstore app.
- Tap the search bar and type the name of the game.
- Open the game’s page and tap Get (free games) or the price button (paid games).
- Wait for the download to finish. The game appears on your home screen and in your library.
Method 2: Buy on the Amazon website and send it to your tablet
This is handy if you’re browsing on a computer or phone.
- Open the game’s page on the Amazon website and sign in with the same Amazon account you use on the Fire tablet.
- In the Deliver to menu, choose your Fire tablet.
- Click Get App or the buy button.
- Turn on your Fire tablet and connect to Wi-Fi. The game downloads automatically.
Why can’t I install Amazon Appstore games on my Android phone?
Amazon stopped offering the Amazon Appstore on regular Android phones and tablets on August 20, 2025. The Appstore continues on Amazon Fire tablets and Fire TV, so that’s where Amazon Appstore games are installed now.
Tips before you download
- Check free space in the tablet’s Settings first. Many 3D games need 100 MB or more.
- Use parental controls in Settings if children use the tablet, so purchases need a password.
- Read the ratings and the newest reviews on the game’s page, and check the supported languages.
- Fire TV: some games also run on Fire TV, and a few support game controllers. The game’s page lists what it works with.
